HKTDC Food Expo Opens with Focus on Wellness and Global Flavours

The 36th HKTDC Food Expo, along with the Beauty & Wellness Expo and Home Delights Expo, opened today at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, bringing together more than 1,850 exhibitors from over 30 countries and regions. Organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), the fairs run concurrently for five days from 13 to 17 August and are open to the public. The central theme, 'Live Well. Stay Well,' underscores the growing importance of wellness in everyday life.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Dr Jonathan Choi, Council Member of the HKTDC, said: 'Today, wellness has become an integral part of everyday life. It is reflected in the food and beverages we enjoy, the way we care for our home and how we nurture our physical and mental well-being.' He added that the fairs offer a wide range of products and experiences to support healthier, happier and more balanced lifestyles.

Sophia Chong, Executive Director of the HKTDC, highlighted Hong Kong's role as a key food trading hub: 'As an international business centre and a key food trading hub in the region, Hong Kong has long served as a platform for global food and catering enterprises seeking to expand into the Chinese Mainland, Asia and international markets.' She noted that the HKTDC fosters cross-border collaboration, strengthening Hong Kong's role as a bridge connecting the Chinese Mainland and international markets.

The fairs feature Five Themed Days, each designed to encourage healthy living. 'Happy Eat Happy Life' focuses on balanced nutrition, showcasing wellness products such as cistanche health drinks, ready-to-eat bird's nest, and organic dried blueberries. 'The World in Blink' highlights global delicacies, including South African honey and Finnair's inflight chocolates. 'Coffee or Tea?' introduces a dedicated Coffee Zone and the Chinese Mainland Matcha Pavilion, along with rare teas from around the world. 'Stay Fresh, Stay Ahead' emphasizes premium fresh produce, with the new 'Hong Kong Harvest' brand and a Gourmet Zone celebrating its 15th edition. Finally, 'Let's Chill' offers relaxation experiences, including a red-light therapy pod and a new Dessert and Gelato Theme with over 100 desserts.

For trade visitors, Food Expo PRO introduces a new 'Meat Zone' and a 'Food Science and Technology Zone' featuring alternative foods and future food technologies. For the first time, Pet Food products are showcased, with a Hong Kong exhibitor using patented packaging technology to preserve nutritional value without preservatives. The halal food section has expanded to include more than 130 exhibitors from various markets, making it easier for buyers to source halal-certified products.

The International Conference of the Modernization of Chinese Medicine & Health Products (ICMCM) also commenced, running from 13 to 15 August. Under the theme 'Clinical Translation, Regulatory Policies and Global Innovative Pathways of Traditional Medicine,' the conference has been expanded to three days and features over 30 speakers from around the world. It aims to introduce Hong Kong's Chinese medicine regulatory framework and facilitate international exchange.

To celebrate the HKTDC's 60th anniversary, special promotions are available, including free admission before 12pm each day for the first 600 visitors presenting official leaflets. Visitors can also enjoy daily lucky draws and prizes worth more than HK$1 million. E-tickets are available through various platforms, and the 'August Happy Buy' campaign website (https://ecoupon.hktdc.com/food/tabs/home) offers additional discounts.
