An interfaith coalition of community and religious leaders convened at the CUNY School of Law to commemorate the ninth anniversary of an international peace law that aims to promote global understanding and cooperation. The event, hosted by Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL), drew over 100 participants representing diverse religious backgrounds, including Sikh, Hindu, and other faith communities.
The commemoration focused on critical aspects of HWPL's international legal framework, specifically articles addressing religious freedom and peaceful coexistence. As an NGO with special consultative status at the United Nations Economic and Social Council, HWPL has developed a comprehensive approach to advancing global peace through legal and cultural mechanisms.
HWPL's peace initiative directly supports United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 16 and 17, which emphasize creating peaceful, inclusive societies and establishing global partnerships for sustainable development. By bringing together religious and community leaders, the organization demonstrates a practical approach to bridging cultural and religious divides.
During the event, participants heard remarks from HWPL Chairman Lee Man-hee, who emphasized the collective responsibility for maintaining peace. His message underscored the importance of transcending religious and cultural differences to work collaboratively toward shared humanitarian goals.
The New York gathering was part of a global commemorative effort, with the primary event taking place in Cheongju, South Korea. Through these coordinated international events, HWPL continues to promote its vision of peaceful coexistence and mutual understanding across diverse global communities.
