JCB and Hanoi Metro Sign MOU to Launch Contactless Transit Payments in Early 2027

JCB International Co., Ltd., the international operations subsidiary of Japan's only international payment brand JCB Co., Ltd., and Hanoi Metro One Member Limited Liability Company (Hanoi Metro) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to collaborate on introducing JCB transit across Hanoi's urban railway network. The agreement, announced on November 1, 2026, sets the stage for JCB contactless payments to go live in early 2027, allowing JCB Cardmembers to tap their cards or compatible devices directly at metro fare gates.

The move marks a significant step in JCB's broader strategy to expand contactless payment solutions for public transportation and to support the growth of cashless payments in Vietnam. For international visitors, particularly travelers from Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and other markets, the service promises a faster, more seamless travel experience without the need to purchase separate transit tickets or carry cash. The initiative is expected to provide greater convenience for tourists and business travelers who already hold JCB cards, enabling them to use a familiar payment method while navigating Hanoi's metro system.

Takumi Takahashi, Executive Vice President of JCB International Co., Ltd., said, "JCB International is delighted to collaborate with Hanoi Metro to introduce JCB transit in Hanoi. We hope this service will provide greater convenience to JCB Cardmembers and contribute to the development of a modern and cashless public transportation ecosystem in Vietnam." The partnership underscores JCB's commitment to enhancing its global acceptance network, which includes about 72 million merchants worldwide and more than 181 million cardmembers, primarily in Asia.

The introduction of JCB transit in Hanoi is part of JCB's international growth strategy, which has involved forming alliances with hundreds of leading banks and financial institutions globally to increase merchant coverage and cardmember base. As a comprehensive payment solution provider, JCB aims to deliver responsive, high-quality service and products to customers worldwide. More information about JCB is available at www.global.jcb/en/.

For Hanoi, the collaboration could signal a boost in tourism and urban mobility, as seamless payment options are increasingly expected by international travelers. The ability to use contactless cards at fare gates reduces friction and waiting times, potentially improving the overall efficiency of the metro system. The service also aligns with Vietnam's push toward a cashless society, supporting the development of a modern public transportation ecosystem.

JCB International and Hanoi Metro will continue to work closely together to complete necessary preparations, with JCB transit targeted for launch in early 2027. The original release can be viewed on www.newmediawire.com.
