Jordan Tye has been announced as the 2023 winner of the Farmer & Morris Law, PLLC Volunteer Service Scholarship. This prestigious award will provide her with the financial support needed to continue her studies at Arizona State University College of Law. Tye's journey to this point has been marked by significant personal challenges and a persistent dedication to her education and community service.
From a young age, Tye faced hardships, including her mother's struggle with drug addiction, which forced her to mature quickly. She lived with her grandparents for five years, during which she developed a strong passion for learning, immersing herself in reading, mathematics, and writing.
Her commitment to making a difference began in high school when she volunteered as a Teen Court volunteer at the El Paso County Courthouse. This experience was pivotal, inspiring her to pursue a legal career and demonstrating the profound impact lawyers can have on individuals and communities. Influenced by the legacy of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Tye learned the importance of looking beyond a person's police record to understand their true circumstances. This lesson was underscored when she mistakenly judged a teenager based on their record, only to discover the individual's innocence and need for assistance.
Tye continued her academic journey at the University of Colorado Boulder, where she earned a degree in Marketing with a minor in Political Science. Currently, she is attending Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law and is expected to graduate in 2025. With the support of the Farmer & Morris Law, PLLC scholarship, Tye aims to complete her law degree and dedicate her career to assisting those entangled in the criminal justice system, helping them to rebuild their lives.
