JPMorgan Deploys JPM Coin on Ethereum Mainnet for Institutional Payments

JPMorgan Chase & Co. has technically deployed its JPM Coin deposit token on the Ethereum mainnet, allowing eligible institutional clients to transfer funds within seconds, around the clock. The token, which represents U.S. dollar deposits held at JPMorgan, was reported by Cointelegraph on Oct. 19. The move marks a significant expansion of the bank's blockchain-based settlement infrastructure and underscores the growing intersection of traditional finance and digital assets.

Emma Landriault, global head of Kinexys Labs, said crypto companies could use the token for blockchain payments, while financial institutions could use it to settle trades and post collateral. She noted that Ethereum was selected for its liquidity and existing use among clients, and that JPM Coin transactions will remain restricted to approved institutional participants. The deployment on Ethereum follows the November 2025 launch of JPM Coin on Coinbase's Base network, an Ethereum layer-2 blockchain. JPMorgan also announced plans in January 2026 to introduce the token on the Canton Network, extending its support for institutional payments and asset settlement across multiple blockchain networks.

The expansion matters because it signals that one of the world's largest banks is moving beyond pilot programs to live blockchain settlement at scale. JPMorgan Chase, with $5.1 trillion in assets and $372 billion in stockholders' equity as of September 30, 2026, serves millions of customers and many of the world's most prominent corporate, institutional and government clients. By enabling round-the-clock, near-instant transfers of tokenized deposits, the bank could reduce settlement times and counterparty risk for institutional clients, potentially reshaping how trades and collateral are managed across global markets. The announcement also highlights the broader push by financial institutions to adopt blockchain infrastructure. The news was distributed through CryptoCurrencyWire, a specialized communications platform focused on blockchain and the cryptocurrency sector. It is one of 75+ brands within the Dynamic Brand Portfolio at IBN that delivers access to a vast network of wire solutions via InvestorWire to efficiently and effectively reach a myriad of target markets, demographics and diverse industries. The platform also offers editorial syndication to 5,000+ outlets, enhanced press release enhancement to ensure maximum impact, and social media distribution via IBN to millions of social media followers.

For the industry, JPMorgan's Ethereum deployment could accelerate the adoption of tokenized deposits by other major banks, as it demonstrates a working model for institutional payments and asset settlement on a public blockchain. The restriction to approved participants may also address regulatory concerns about money laundering and market integrity, providing a blueprint for compliant blockchain use in traditional finance. As JPMorgan continues to expand its token across multiple networks, the implications for cross-border payments, collateral management and trade settlement could be profound, potentially lowering costs and increasing efficiency for institutional clients worldwide.
