LION Smart Production GmbH, a subsidiary of LION E-Mobility Group, is bolstering its stationary battery energy storage systems (BESS) division by appointing two internationally experienced executives, signaling the company's commitment to scaling its presence in the rapidly growing energy storage market. Winfried Wahl has been named Head of BESS Strategy, while Sebastian Bujnoch joins as Manager Business and Sales Development, focusing on international supplier relationships and customer expansion across Europe.
The appointments come as LION Smart emphasizes the BESS segment as a central growth pillar. Stationary energy storage systems are crucial for integrating renewable energy, stabilizing power grids, and enabling sustainable energy concepts. According to the company, these systems play a pivotal role in the global energy transition.
Winfried Wahl brings over 18 years of experience in photovoltaic systems and stationary energy storage. A graduate electrical engineer from RWTH Aachen University, he has expertise across the entire value chain, from technology positioning to market entry strategies and regulatory requirements. In previous roles, Wahl helped shape the European market entry of companies like Hithium and LONGi, and contributed to BNEF Tier 1 listings and reinsurance eligibility through Munich Re. He also co-authored the IEA World Energy Outlook Special Report 2024 and serves on advisory panels. At LION Smart, Wahl will refine strategic positioning, develop competitive product models, and expand partnerships in stationary storage.
Sebastian Bujnoch complements the team with extensive international leadership in manufacturing, operations, and the battery sector. With 16 years of experience in China and Asian manufacturing markets, he has deep insights into industrial scaling, supply chain structures, and cross-border collaboration. His expertise bridges European innovation with Asian production capabilities. At LION Smart, Bujnoch will focus on building and scaling the BESS business unit, strengthening supplier relationships in China, and broadening the European customer portfolio.
“With Winfried Wahl and Sebastian Bujnoch, we are gaining two individuals who combine strategic market insight, international experience, and operational execution capabilities in an ideal way,” said Dr. Joachim Damasky, CEO of LION E-Mobility AG. “Their expertise will play an important role in systematically building our BESS business and positioning LION Smart as a strong partner in the European energy storage market.”
The expansion of the BESS team comes as the energy storage market experiences dynamic growth, driven by the need for grid stability and renewable integration. LION Smart aims to develop high-performance, scalable storage solutions, contributing to further electrification and the energy transition. The company already offers a 5 MWh container solution and immersion-cooled battery systems, leveraging its expertise in quality, industrialization, and production.
LION E-Mobility AG, listed on stock exchanges in Munich, Frankfurt, and Hamburg (www.lionemobility.com), manufactures lithium-ion battery packs for electric vehicles and stationary applications. The company operates automated module assembly lines in Germany, emphasizing safety, quality, and reliability. With these strategic hires, LION Smart is poised to strengthen its position in the European energy storage market.
