Mortgage Broker Advocacy Groups Unite for Historic Washington Fly-In Event

The Broker Action Coalition (BAC) and the National Association of Mortgage Brokers (NAMB) have formed a partnership to co-host a joint advocacy fly-in event in Washington, D.C., from April 20-22, 2026. Titled "Advocacy in Action: Better Together," this collaboration marks a significant development for independent mortgage brokers seeking to influence policy decisions that affect their industry and the homebuyers they serve.

Brendan McKay, Chief Advocacy Officer of BAC and owner of McKay Mortgage, has championed this unified approach throughout his advocacy work. Under McKay's leadership, BAC has established itself as an effective force in Washington, achieving legislative victories such as the passage of trigger lead legislation that brokers identified as their top priority three years ago. "Mortgage brokers told us three years ago when we founded the BAC that trigger lead legislation was the most important issue to them," McKay explained. "And three short years later, which is light speed in DC terms, the legislation has passed and that problem has been solved."

This partnership represents more than symbolic cooperation between advocacy organizations. McKay emphasized that unity is essential for effective advocacy in Washington, stating, "In DC, we are united. We do not care if you're W-2 or 1099. We do not care if you are a true broker or if you're a non-delegated correspondent, and we sure as shit do not care which mortgage lenders you do or do not work with." Rachel Clark, Executive Director of the BAC, reinforced this collaborative approach, explaining, "Policy decisions are being made every day that directly impact brokers and the families we serve. By co-hosting this event with NAMB, we are creating a stronger, louder, and more effective voice for independent brokers."

The importance of this unified advocacy effort extends beyond immediate policy goals. Mortgage brokers serve critical populations including Veterans, minorities, and underserved communities in their pursuit of homeownership. When brokers face regulatory challenges or legislative barriers, their ability to serve these communities effectively diminishes. The joint fly-in event aims to address these systemic issues through comprehensive policy briefings, issue-focused discussions, and direct meetings with members of Congress and their staff.

McKay has made clear that sustained advocacy requires financial support from the broker community. "Brokers are a 'I'll believe it when I see it' group," he noted. "Well, you've seen it. Trigger lead legislation was the most important thing to you. Done, proof of concept. The BAC is capable of properly fighting for and representing mortgage brokers in Washington, DC. And if you want it to continue, you need to step up and start paying for it." With adequate resources, McKay envisions expanding BAC's capacity to tackle state-level issues and address broader challenges facing mortgage brokers nationwide.

The event has been priced at $99 to ensure accessibility for brokers of all business sizes, reflecting the organizations' commitment to inclusive participation. More information about the event and registration details are available on the Broker Action Coalition's website at https://brokeractioncoalition.com/aia-2026. This historic collaboration signals a new era of coordinated advocacy where independent brokers stand united to ensure their industry remains a vital pathway to homeownership for all Americans.
