Next Generation Trust Company, a custodian of self-directed retirement plans, has announced a strategic partnership with KJLK & Co., LLC, to provide accredited investors with access to the Square One Fund platform, a private investment fund offering diversified alternative strategies.
The collaboration, announced by Next Generation CEO Jaime Raskulinecz, allows eligible investors to use funds from their self-directed IRAs to invest in Square One Fund, LP, which operates under Sections 3(c)(1) and 3(c)(7) of the Investment Company Act of 1940. The fund allocates capital across private equity, venture capital, private credit, hedge fund strategies, real estate, and infrastructure, offering a professionally managed ecosystem for alternative investments.
“This strategic partnership allows our accredited investor clients to diversify their retirement investments via high-value alternative assets using funds from their Next Generation IRA, embedding a broadly diversified product into their overall portfolio,” said Raskulinecz. To participate, investors must open and fund a self-directed account with Next Generation and subscribe for a limited partnership interest in the fund, with all investors' statuses subject to independent third-party verification under Rule 506(c) of Regulation D.
Joseph LaTurner, principal of KJLK & Co., highlighted the benefits of the fund: “Square One Fund provides access to alternative strategies and private markets in a structure that systematically addresses the general lack of liquidity and the heavy due diligence burdens individual investors typically face. Our team consistently compares intrinsic value against cost, adhering strictly to our value-oriented investment philosophy, principles and fundamentals regardless of broader market cycles.” He noted that the disciplined approach offers redemption flexibility greater than many comparable private funds.
LaTurner chose Next Generation as a strategic partner due to their entrepreneurial spirit and operational flexibility. Next Generation is featured under “Products” on the KJLK website as the preferred custodian for their alternative strategies. The partnership also aims to attract registered investment advisors (RIAs) who have shown interest in the fund for their high-net-worth clients. “We invite independent fee-based financial advisors to work with us and expand their clients' access to alternative assets while also enhancing their own investment knowledge,” said Raskulinecz. Advisors retain client relationships and assets under management while helping clients build more eclectic portfolios through self-direction.
This partnership is significant as it provides accredited investors with a streamlined path to incorporate non-correlated alternative assets into their retirement savings, potentially improving portfolio diversification and long-term returns. By leveraging self-directed IRAs, investors can access private markets that were traditionally limited to institutional investors, thereby democratizing alternative investments. The collaboration also underscores the growing trend of integrating alternative assets into retirement planning, offering a way to hedge against market volatility and economic downturns.
