The Ogden Museum of Southern Art has announced the selected works for its 15th annual Louisiana Contemporary exhibition, presented by The Helis Foundation. Among the 50 works chosen from over 1,786 submissions are two paintings by artist Pam Skehan, currently on view at Wine Art Gallery in New Orleans’ Arts District.
The exhibition, which runs from August 1, 2026, to February 14, 2027, at the Ogden Museum, celebrates the vitality of artistic practice across Louisiana. Since its launch in 2012, Louisiana Contemporary has featured work by more than 650 artists, establishing itself as a significant event on the national arts calendar. This year’s juror, Sarah Jones, the Lulu C. and Anthony W. Wang Head of Live Arts at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, selected 45 artists for the show.
Skehan’s paintings, “Woman in Waiting” and “Tipping Point,” are currently displayed at Wine Art Gallery, located on Julia Street in the Arts District. The gallery aims to give back to emerging artists while honoring New Orleans’ unique history. It actively seeks new local talent and international artists, with over 80% of its represented artists being female or from underrepresented groups. The gallery’s diverse roster includes local, British, French, and Spanish artists, reflecting a cultural melting pot.
The selection of Skehan’s works by a Met curator highlights the growing recognition of Louisiana artists on a national stage. The Louisiana Contemporary exhibition not only showcases the state’s creative voices but also provides a platform for emerging talents like those represented by Wine Art Gallery. The gallery’s commitment to diversity and its location on Gallery Row, anchored by Michelin-starred restaurants Emeril’s and Peche, further underscore the cultural vibrancy of the area.
