Peru is set to revolutionize international exposition participation by introducing a groundbreaking virtual pavilion at the 2025 Universal Expo in Osaka-Kansai, Japan. The digital experience will provide global audiences an unprecedented opportunity to explore Peru's rich cultural landscape through an immersive, interactive metaverse platform.
The virtual pavilion, developed under the slogan "Infinite Possibilities," will offer visitors a comprehensive digital journey through Peru's historical and contemporary identity. Using advanced photogrammetry techniques, the exhibit will showcase high-precision 3D models of significant cultural artifacts, including the Lord of Sicán mask, Paracas textile mantle, Nasca ceramics, and archaeological treasures from the Lord of Sipán collection.
Accessible through the "Virtual Expo" application on multiple platforms including smartphones, computers, and virtual reality devices like Meta Quest 2 and 3, the digital experience enables global audiences to engage with Peru's cultural heritage without geographical limitations. Visitors can create personalized avatars and navigate a metaverse inspired by the real Yumeshima island, facilitating interactive cultural exchange and exploration.
The metaverse pavilion represents a significant technological and cultural milestone, transforming traditional exposition models by offering an immersive, globally accessible platform. By digitizing cultural artifacts and creating an interactive environment, Peru demonstrates innovative approaches to cultural diplomacy and digital engagement.
Organized by the Bureau International des Expositions, the Expo 2025 Osaka-Kansai represents a critical moment for international cultural and economic exchange. Peru's participation, led by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism and PROMPERÚ, underscores the country's commitment to leveraging digital technologies for cultural representation and global communication.
The virtual pavilion will remain active throughout the six-month exposition, concluding on October 13, 2025, providing an extended window for global audiences to explore Peru's multifaceted cultural landscape through this cutting-edge digital experience.
