SS Innovations Appoints Veteran Medtech Finance Executive as CFO Amid Global Robotic Surgery Expansion

SS Innovations International (NASDAQ: SSII), a developer of surgical robotic technologies, has appointed veteran medtech finance executive Sarah M. Romano as chief financial officer, effective August 3, 2026. The company announced the move on July 20, highlighting Romano's more than two decades of experience in public-company finance, capital markets, and medical technology, including raising over $100 million during her career.

The appointment comes as SS Innovations continues pursuing U.S. Food and Drug Administration clearance for its SSi Mantra surgical robotic system while expanding internationally. The company recently graduated the inaugural class of its SS International Centre for Robotics Surgery (SSICRS) cardiac robotic surgery training program, which welcomed 33 healthcare professionals from seven countries. This underscores the company's focus on surgeon education alongside technology deployment.

Romano joins SS Innovations after serving as CFO at Vicarious Surgical, another robotic surgery developer, where she oversaw financial and operational initiatives aimed at reducing cash burn, strengthening the balance sheet, and supporting growth. Her experience in capital markets is expected to be crucial as SS Innovations advances regulatory initiatives and broadens commercialization of the SSi Mantra platform.

According to the company, Romano's appointment adds public-company financial and capital markets expertise at a pivotal time when the company is preparing for FDA review (https://nnw.fm/yY4UM). The SSi Mantra is a multi-arm robotic surgical system designed to enable minimally invasive procedures across various specialties.

The global expansion of robotic surgery is gaining pace, with SS Innovations positioning itself to compete in a market dominated by established players. By investing in training programs like SSICRS, the company aims to build a skilled user base that can drive adoption of its technology. The training program's international reach, with participants from seven countries, signals growing interest in robotic surgery solutions outside the United States.

Romano's financial background is expected to help the company navigate the capital-intensive process of regulatory approval and market entry. Her track record of raising capital will be valuable as SS Innovations seeks funding for clinical trials, manufacturing scale-up, and commercial launch.

The company's forward-looking statements caution that actual results may differ materially due to risks and uncertainties, including those detailed in its SEC filings. SS Innovations has provided no further details on the timeline for FDA submission or potential market entry.
