Telomir Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: TELO) reported new research findings from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine showing that Telomir-Zn produced growth inhibition across human and canine osteosarcoma cell-line models at similar low drug concentrations. The study, led by Shay Bracha, DVM, MS, DACVIM (Oncology), evaluated Telomir-Zn in one human and two canine osteosarcoma models. According to the company, the results support further translational investigation and a potential development pathway using naturally occurring canine osteosarcoma.
The findings are significant because osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer, occurs spontaneously in dogs and shares many biological features with the human disease. If Telomir-Zn continues to show efficacy in canine models, it could accelerate development for human osteosarcoma, a rare but aggressive cancer that primarily affects children and young adults. Canine osteosarcoma is also a major cause of illness and death in dogs, particularly in large breeds, and new treatment options are needed.
Telomir is in discussions with The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine and assessing next steps for a potential in vivo efficacy study in canine osteosarcoma. Such a study could support both veterinary development and translational advancement toward human osteosarcoma. The company said its immediate focus remains its triple-negative breast cancer program, which is advancing toward site initiation and Phase 1/2 patient enrollment under an active FDA-cleared Investigational New Drug (IND) application for advanced or metastatic triple-negative breast cancer.
