TOMY International and Paramount Pictures have announced the launch of a crowd-funded project to create a large-scale replica of the Star Trek U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701, based on the starship from the first Star Trek motion picture. Pre-orders for this limited edition, highly detailed model will be available from August 1, 2024, to September 12, 2024.
The project aims to produce a 1:350 scale premium die-cast model of the U.S.S. Enterprise, serving as a centerpiece for avid Star Trek collectors. Bill Walters, Senior Vice President at TOMY International, emphasized the significance of this model, stating, "This TOMY Plus crowd-funded U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 will be the centerpiece of any avid Star Trek fan's collection." The announcement coincides with the Las Vegas Star Trek Convention, where the model will be showcased to the devoted fanbase.
TOMY International has collaborated with renowned Star Trek experts, including Gary Kerr, to ensure the replica's accuracy. Kerr highlighted the meticulous design process, noting, "As far as I'm concerned, this is the most accurate model of the Motion Picture Enterprise that has yet been produced." The model features the same type of color-changing interference paints used on the original studio model, offering fans a pre-painted replica that requires no additional customization.
Key features of the model include its 1:350 scale dimensions (34.29" x 16.00" x 11.15"), iridescent paint pattern, die-cast components, and detailed interiors of the hangar deck, officers' lounge, and arboretum. The model also includes three different light modes—start, warp, and impulse/cruise—that illuminate various parts of the ship, such as the Nav Deflector, Impulse Drive, Nacelles, Phaser Banks, and Photon Torpedo Launchers. Additional features include a SURAK Shuttlecraft with Warp Sled and a Type-C USB-powered display base.
Priced at $699 USD (excluding shipping), the model will weigh 20 lbs and will only be available in the continental United States. Production is set to begin in the fall of 2024, contingent on reaching the goal of 5,000 pre-ordered units. The first units are scheduled for delivery in October 2025.
