Triumph Law, P.C. has announced that Thu Tran, a Graphic Design major at Arizona State University, is the recipient of the 2023 Change Any Law Scholarship. This annual scholarship provides $2,500 to a student who proposes a modification to a local, state, or federal law that would improve their everyday life through a 500 to 1,000-word essay.
Tran's academic focus is on using digital design tools and understanding how design can convey messages and shape perceptions. Outside of her studies, Tran participates in online design challenges and volunteers for various design projects. She aims to work in branding and advertising post-graduation and aspires to eventually lead a team of designers as a creative director.
Tran was particularly drawn to the scholarship because of her personal experiences with the impact of minimum wage laws. In her winning essay, she argues for indexing the minimum wage to inflation to provide workers with a more stable and secure income. She addresses concerns from business owners about the potential financial strain of increased wages by citing research that shows higher wages can lead to increased productivity, thereby offsetting the additional costs.
Upon receiving the Change Any Law Scholarship, Tran expressed her gratitude, noting that the financial support would alleviate some of the financial pressures of her studies. She also remarked, "It's an acknowledgment of my potential, which motivates me to work even harder."
