TORONTO – Two extraordinary dogs have been inducted into the 2026 Purina Animal Hall of Fame, celebrating their remarkable bravery and unwavering devotion in protecting their owners during life-threatening emergencies. The honorees include a dog who defended her family from a black bear that broke into their home and another who helped her owner escape a frozen lake in Nova Scotia.
In Nipigon, Ontario, Chloe, a devoted family pet, sprang into action when a black bear forced its way into her home. Her quick thinking and fearless barking alerted her husband, who was able to confine the animal to the basement until police arrived. Chloe's heroic instincts not only protected her family but also prevented a potentially tragic encounter.
In Lawrencetown, Nova Scotia, Timber demonstrated extraordinary presence of mind when her owner fell through the ice of a frozen lake. Timber pulled forward until her harness caught on branches, giving her owner the leverage needed to climb out of the frigid water. Her owner credits Timber with helping save her life, noting that without Timber's actions, the outcome could have been fatal.
The Purina Animal Hall of Fame has been recognizing remarkable animals since 1968, celebrating the incredible bond between pets and people. This year's inductees exemplify the courage and loyalty that pets bring to our lives, often in the most unexpected and dangerous situations.
