UGI Utilities has announced the start of a critical system upgrade project in Hazleton, scheduled to begin on Berner Avenue on June 24. This initiative underscores UGI's dedication to ensuring the safety and reliability of its services for the community. The project involves the replacement of a gas main, which will necessitate the closure of Berner Avenue between South Cedar Street and South Poplar Street during construction hours from 7am to 5pm, Monday through Friday. While access will be maintained for residents and businesses in the affected area, parking restrictions will be in place, and some interruptions to natural gas service are expected.
The construction, anticipated to wrap up by mid-July, is subject to delays due to weather or unforeseen working conditions. Following the underground work, final paving and restoration efforts will be undertaken to restore the area. This upgrade not only aims to bolster the infrastructure but also presents a unique opportunity for homes and businesses along the project route to consider converting to natural gas, a cleaner and potentially more cost-effective energy source.
This development is significant for the Hazleton community as it promises enhanced service reliability and safety, reflecting UGI's ongoing commitment to its customers. The potential for natural gas conversion could also have long-term benefits for residents and businesses, including reduced energy costs and a smaller environmental footprint. The project's completion will mark another step forward in UGI's efforts to modernize its infrastructure and meet the evolving needs of its customers.
