Vertical Data Inc. (OTCQB: VDTA), a vertically integrated AI infrastructure company, announced that it has entered into a definitive purchase agreement to acquire an existing industrial data center site with 4.5 MW of power capacity in Sollefteå Municipality in Central Sweden. The agreement was made through its majority-owned subsidiary, Vertical Data Nordic AB. The acquisition, if completed, marks a significant step in the company's strategy to build out AI data center facilities and capitalize on the surging demand for AI infrastructure.
According to the press release, Vertical Data intends to pursue an application for up to 100 MW of total power capacity at the site to develop a full-scale AI data center facility. The company noted that this project is part of an active conversion pipeline representing more than 250 MW of global data center opportunities. Closing is anticipated in the next several weeks, subject to financing, corporate approvals, applicable regulatory clearances, and other closing conditions.
The move underscores the growing importance of data center capacity in the AI era. As artificial intelligence models become more complex and data-intensive, the need for specialized infrastructure—particularly high-power data centers—has skyrocketed. By securing a site with existing power capacity and the potential for significant expansion, Vertical Data aims to position itself as a key player in the AI infrastructure space.
Vertical Data operates three platforms: VerticalData.io, which provides enterprise GPU provisioning and managed infrastructure; GPUfinancing.com, which arranges structured financing for GPU deployments; and Vertical Edge, which holds equity in the data centers the company sources, develops, leases, and manages. Together, these platforms deliver hardware, financing, and facilities under one company, offering a comprehensive solution for AI infrastructure needs.
The acquisition in Sweden also highlights the global nature of the AI infrastructure race. European countries, particularly those with abundant renewable energy and favorable climates for data centers, are becoming attractive locations for such facilities. Sweden, with its hydroelectric power and cool climate, is well-suited for energy-intensive data centers. This project could bring economic benefits to the Sollefteå Municipality and contribute to the region's technological development.
For investors, the announcement signals Vertical Data's commitment to expanding its footprint and capturing a share of the rapidly growing AI infrastructure market. The company's integrated approach—combining hardware, financing, and facilities—could differentiate it from competitors. However, the transaction remains subject to closing conditions, and there is no guarantee that it will be completed as planned.
