Virginia is set to celebrate the pivotal role of women in its wine industry through an innovative statewide initiative that promises to shed light on female leadership and expertise. The Virginia Women in Wine Trail, a comprehensive project spanning eight regions, will provide wine enthusiasts and industry supporters an immersive experience highlighting women's critical contributions to winemaking.
Running from March 14-31, 2025, the trail features 50 wineries, cideries, and meaderies where women play key leadership roles in production, management, and education. Participants will have opportunities to engage in diverse experiences, including Female Favorites Flights, vineyard tours, blending workshops, and behind-the-scenes discussions that reveal the depth of women's expertise in the wine industry.
A significant aspect of the initiative is its focus on addressing gender disparities in winemaking. According to Virginia Women in Wine's upcoming report, women currently comprise only 17% of head winemaker positions in the state. The trail aims to draw attention to this gap and explore strategies for increasing women's representation in leadership roles.
The culminating event, the VWW Trailblazer Bash at Bluemont Vineyards, will recognize outstanding women in the industry through the presentation of three Trailblazer Awards.
