Cancer Support Community SF Bay Area Breaks Ground on Innovative Support Center, Bolstered by Significant Donation Match

The Cancer Support Community San Francisco Bay Area (CSC) is transforming cancer support services with the groundbreaking of a new $30 million support center in Lafayette, California. The project, part of the organization's "Rooted in Resilience" Capital Campaign, represents a significant expansion of comprehensive, no-cost supportive care programs for individuals and families affected by cancer.

The new six-acre campus, located adjacent to the Lafayette Reservoir, will feature cutting-edge facilities designed to enhance emotional, social, and financial support. These include children and teen enrichment areas, flexible support rooms, a demonstration kitchen, counseling spaces, art studios, a library, café, and healing gardens. Advanced technology will enable CSC to deliver in-person, virtual, hybrid, and on-demand programs across diverse communities.

A pivotal aspect of the project is a $5 million anonymous donation match, which has energized the organization's efforts to complete the facility. With $2.6 million remaining in the fundraising goal, the CSC is poised to significantly increase its reach and impact in the Bay Area.

Community leaders, including Lafayette Mayor Susan Candell, Congressman Mark DeSaulnier, and State Senator Tim Grayson, attended the groundbreaking ceremony, emphasizing the project's importance. Lucinda Bazile, CSC's Chief Executive Officer, described the initiative as "the beginning of a new era of compassion, innovation, and resilience in cancer support services."

Since its founding in 1990, CSC has provided comprehensive support programs including counseling, support groups, nutrition guidance, exercise classes, emergency financial assistance, and specialized programs for children and teens. The new center represents a significant evolution in the organization's ability to serve more individuals across diverse communities.
