The Martial Arts History Museum is set to host the 19th Annual Dragonfest expo on August 2, 2025, at the Glendale Civic Auditorium. This event, more than just an Asian cultural and heritage celebration, serves as a global gathering for martial arts enthusiasts to honor the legacy of martial arts icons and support the museum's preservation efforts.
Founded and coordinated by Michael Matsuda, Dragonfest has become a pivotal event in the martial arts community, featuring legends such as Bill Ryusaki, Fumio Demura, and Tak Kubota, whose contributions continue to inspire. The expo will run from 11 am to 5 pm, showcasing over 100 booths with martial arts supplies, artwork, and autograph signings by stars like Michael Jai White and Cynthia Rothrock.
This year's Dragonfest will also welcome special guests including Steve Oedekerk and Joe Mantegna, alongside six lecture classes led by figures such as Benny Uquidez and Don Wilson. Cultural performances, including Chinese Lion dancing and Okinawan dancers, will highlight the rich diversity of Asian traditions.
Michael Matsuda emphasizes the event's deeper purpose: to celebrate culture and history while safeguarding the martial arts legacy for future generations. As a charity event, all proceeds directly benefit the Martial Arts History Museum, ensuring its doors remain open to preserve this invaluable history.
Major sponsors like Dr. Kemi Price and the city of Glendale underscore the community's support for this cause. Dragonfest 2025 not only offers a day of entertainment and education but also a chance to contribute to a larger mission of cultural preservation.
