Georgia Latino Film Festival Marks 15 Years with Mexico as Country of Honor

Atlanta's premier celebration of Latino cinema is marking a significant milestone this year, as the Georgia Latino International Film Festival (GALIFF) celebrates its 15th anniversary with a five-day event at the historic Fox Theatre from September 30 through October 4, 2026. The Georgia Latino Film Alliance (GALFA) announced that Mexico will be honored as the 2026 Country of Honor, bringing a spotlight to one of the world's most influential cinematic traditions.

This milestone, often referred to as a quinceañera in Latin culture, is more than an anniversary; it represents the festival's growth from a bold vision into one of the Southeast's premier film festivals. Over the past 15 years, GALIFF has championed independent filmmakers, amplified underrepresented voices, and connected Georgia with stories from across Latin America, the U.S., and the world. The festival has become a launching pad for emerging artists and a cultural home for communities whose stories deserve the biggest screen.

"This Quinceañera is more than an anniversary, it's a celebration of every filmmaker, volunteer, sponsor, and audience member who believed in our mission," said Yvette Moise, Co-Founder and President of GALFA/GALIFF. "Honoring Mexico during this milestone year is especially meaningful because its cinematic legacy has inspired generations of storytellers around the world. As we celebrate fifteen incredible years, we're also looking ahead to an even bigger future for Latino cinema in Georgia and beyond."

The festival is also entering a new digital era with a completely redesigned galiff.org, offering a year-round platform for filmmakers, students, industry professionals, and film lovers. The website will feature event information, film submissions, volunteer registration, educational programming, and career opportunities, ensuring engagement continues long after the festival ends.

Dr. Jose Marquez, Founder and CEO of GALFA/GALIFF, emphasized the community aspect of the celebration: "This isn't just our celebration, it's Atlanta's Hispanic Heritage celebration. Whether you're premiering your first film, attending your first screening, volunteering behind the scenes, or helping us grow as a sponsor, you are part of this story. Our Quinceañera is about honoring where we've been while opening the doors to the next generation of filmmakers."

The festival's impact extends beyond the screen, providing opportunities for those who may not have a voice. It has become a gathering place for industry leaders and a cultural touchstone for the Latino community in Georgia and beyond. The 2026 edition promises five unforgettable days of cinema, conversation, culture, and celebration, bringing together audiences from every background to experience the power of storytelling without borders.

This year's festival is made possible by the support of sponsors and community partners, including The Fox Theatre, Ole Mexican Foods, Fulton Films, VensureHR, 222Creative, WIFTA, Georgia Films, Dekalb Entertainment Commission, and the Georgia Latino Film Alliance. Their commitment has been vital to the festival's success and growth over the years.

As GALIFF celebrates this quinceañera, it is inviting filmmakers, volunteers, corporate partners, and supporters to be part of its most ambitious festival yet. Festival passes, tickets, sponsorship opportunities, volunteer registration, and film submissions are available at galiff.org.
