Nicola Mining Reports Treasure Mountain Mine in Better-Than-Anticipated Condition Ahead of Planned 2027 Restart

Nicola Mining Inc. (NASDAQ: NICM) (TSXV: NIM) (FSE: HLIA) has announced the results of an independent underground inspection of its Treasure Mountain Silver Mine in British Columbia, revealing that the mine is in better-than-anticipated condition after approximately 13 years of inactivity. The assessment, conducted by McElhanney Ltd., an independent Canadian engineering and consulting firm, found that both principal portals remain accessible, significant portions of the underground development are still open, natural ventilation is functioning, and much of the historical infrastructure remains in place. No conditions were observed that would prevent the project from advancing to the next stage of evaluation.

The positive findings could potentially expedite the timeline for recommencing mining activities, which the company is evaluating for a 2027 restart. The assessment also identified accessible underground drill stations, partially developed headings, unexplored areas, and potential unprocessed material that could provide exploration opportunities. Nicola plans to advance a detailed geotechnical and rehabilitation assessment, followed by surveying and mapping, with the work expected to support subsequent mine planning, ventilation design, rehabilitation, and the recommencement of mineral extraction.

CEO Peter Espig highlighted the significance of the existing underground development combined with Nicola's permitted Merritt milling infrastructure, stating that this could provide a disciplined and capital-efficient pathway toward renewed silver production. The Merritt mill, which Nicola owns 100%, is fully permitted and can process both gold and silver mill feed via gravity and flotation processes. This infrastructure advantage could reduce the capital expenditure typically required for mine restart projects, making the Treasure Mountain Mine an attractive proposition for the company and its investors.

The Treasure Mountain Property, which Nicola owns 100% of, includes 30 mineral claims and a mineral lease spanning an area exceeding 2,200 hectares. This asset, along with the New Craigmont Project—a high-grade copper property covering 10,913 hectares adjacent to Highland Valley Copper, Canada's largest copper mine—positions Nicola as a multi-commodity junior mining company with significant upside potential.

The announcement is important for the mining industry as it demonstrates that even after prolonged inactivity, mines can retain their viability, especially when paired with existing infrastructure like Nicola's mill. For investors, the better-than-expected condition of the mine could reduce restart costs and timelines, enhancing the potential return on investment. The identification of unexplored areas and potential unprocessed material also suggests that the mine could offer exploration upside beyond its known resources, which could increase the project's long-term value.

Nicola Mining's strategic approach to evaluate the mine's condition before committing to a restart is a prudent step that mitigates risks associated with underground operations. The company's focus on leveraging existing assets to achieve production aligns with industry trends toward capital efficiency and sustainable development.

As Nicola progresses with further assessments and planning, stakeholders will be watching closely for updates on the feasibility and timeline of the Treasure Mountain Mine restart. The company's ability to bring the mine back into production could have significant implications for the local economy in British Columbia and for the silver market, which continues to see strong demand from industrial and investment sectors.
