Mark Gordon, partner and broker at Christiania Realty in Vail, Colorado, has been elected President-Elect of the Colorado Association of Realtors (CAR) for 2027-2028, stepping into the role on December 1, 2026. The election, decided by CAR’s Board of Directors comprising approximately 120 members from real estate associations across the state, places Gordon in a leadership position during a period he describes as 'unsettled' for the industry.
Gordon’s campaign focused on one-on-one conversations rather than a traditional platform. 'I always think of a campaign as a conversation, not as a sales pitch,' he said, noting that he sent handwritten snail mail cards to all 120 voters and attended regional summits to engage with members from diverse districts. This approach mirrors his tenure on the Vail Town Council from 2005 to 2009, where he prioritized time with constituents, including those who might not support him.
Gordon’s election comes at a critical time for Colorado’s real estate market, which is navigating challenges from the National Association of Realtors settlement and its ripple effects on MLS structures, the rise of artificial intelligence, brokerage consolidation, and an ongoing affordability crisis. 'Things are definitely in a transition and sometimes you feel like you might be standing on quicksand,' Gordon said. He sees organized real estate as a key force for advocacy, citing CAR’s successful effort to defeat a proposed vacancy tax at the Colorado state legislature earlier this year. 'Advocacy works,' he said. 'Realtors working together along with other organizations really can make a huge difference for homeownership and the American dream.'
Gordon brings a unique perspective from Vail, a cash-driven market that tracks closer to the Dow Jones than to interest rates and is constrained by national forest boundaries. 'It tends to be the slowest into corrections and the first to recover,' he said. This experience informs his role as chair of CAR’s Insight Advisory Committee, a think tank producing white papers on future industry trends. He also serves as a director with the National Association of Realtors, representing Colorado’s small and medium boards.
On key issues, Gordon has spoken about the role of AI in real estate, arguing that agents using AI as a replacement for human connection will lose ground. 'If every company uses AI without humans, they’re all going to be the same,' he said, emphasizing the need for a combination of AI and human creativity to differentiate services. He has also highlighted insurance availability as a pressing challenge, raising it with both of Colorado’s U.S. senators during a Washington D.C. trip.
As President-Elect, Gordon will prepare to lead an organization representing thousands of Colorado real estate professionals. His career path, from Vail Town Council to national director, reflects a focus on being where decisions are made. For more information, visit vailcoluxuryhomes.com.
