VOCIC has announced the launch of the U32 Ultra Lightweight Manual Wheelchair, a foldable, self-propelled wheelchair engineered to simplify everyday mobility for seniors, caregivers, and families. The wheelchair features a 23 lb aluminum frame and a total weight of 35 lb including wheels and leg rests, addressing common challenges associated with traditional manual wheelchairs.
For many families, a wheelchair is not just for medical appointments or occasional outings; it becomes part of daily life. Moving between rooms, transferring from bed to chair, loading into a car trunk, navigating narrow hallways, and helping a loved one stay involved in family routines are all everyday tasks that can be complicated by heavy, bulky chairs. The U32 was developed to reduce these frustrations with a design that balances portability, comfort, adjustability, and safety.
“Everyday mobility should feel less complicated for both the user and the caregiver,” said Michael, CEO of VOCIC. “The U32 was designed around the real moments families manage every day, from getting through a doorway to transferring beside a bed, loading the chair into a vehicle, or heading out for an appointment.”
Traditional manual wheelchairs often present difficulties in real home environments. Heavy frames make lifting and transport challenging, bulky folding sizes consume excessive storage space, and fixed armrests or footrests can hinder transfers. Push handles may force caregivers to bend, and limited control features reduce maneuverability. The U32 addresses these issues with a lightweight frame, compact folding, flip-up armrests, swing-in/out footrests, and adjustable caregiver handles.
The U32's lightweight design is a key selling point. The frame weighs just 23 lb, and the total wheelchair weight is 35 lb, making it easier to lift and transport. It folds to a compact 12.6" x 26.8" size, allowing for convenient storage in closets or vehicles. Quick-release rear wheels enhance portability, enabling the chair to fit into tighter spaces when needed.
Transfers are a critical aspect of wheelchair use, and the U32 includes features to facilitate them. Flip-up armrests and swing-in/out footrests create a clearer transfer path, reducing obstruction between the user and destination surfaces. Height-adjustable armrests and adjustable footplates allow for better body positioning, while a 17.7" wide by 17" deep seat with a breathable cushion supports comfort.
Caregiver handling is another focus. The rear push handles offer four levels of height adjustment (from approximately 37" to 40.5"/40.6"), accommodating caregivers of different statures. A rear stepper tube assists in tilting the wheelchair over small curbs or obstacles. The U32 also features both user-operated hand brakes and caregiver-operated handle brakes, giving both parties control during movement and stopping.
Safety features include rear reflectors for visibility in low-light conditions, a safety belt, an anti-tip device, and a reinforced Double-X Base frame for stability. These elements support safer daily use when the wheelchair is properly fitted and operated according to the user manual.
The U32 is designed for a variety of settings, including home navigation through narrow doorways (overall width below 25.6 inches), doctor appointments, family visits, car transfers, and community outings. It supports both self-propelled movement on appropriate surfaces and assisted movement by caregivers.
For seniors, the U32 offers seated mobility without unnecessary bulk. For caregivers, it reduces strain during pushing, transfers, storage, and transport. For families, it makes daily mobility support more integrated into everyday life. The U32 reflects VOCIC's commitment to creating mobility solutions that fit real homes, real routines, and real family care.
